Birdquest

Birdquest tours are exciting, friendly, small-group birdwatching tours designed and guided by a team of leaders and office staff whose professionalism, experience and knowledge are unsurpassed. Quality is Birdquest’s watchword and profoundly influences everything that we do. Our guiding philosophy at Birdquest is quite simple: it is to give you, our clients and friends, the very best, most rewarding and most enjoyable birdwatching holidays possible: in other words, ‘The Ultimate in Bird Tours’.

There is nothing unusual about the pace and style of Birdquest tours. If you have travelled with one of the other ‘top-end’ bird tour companies that cater for the keener kind of birder, you will find the pace and style of our tours very similar. The reason our groups do better than most is largely down to the skills and knowledge of our guides, and to our superior trip logistics, although we will admit to being quite persistent in trying to find the special birds for you!

Birdquest prices are competitive compared with other top-end birdwatching tour companies and represent excellent value for money on a per day basis. The top guides, the best tour logistics, the best birding results, the same accommodations, and yet often at less cost to you! Check our tour prices against the other top-of-the-range bird tour companies and see for yourself.

Birdquest was founded in 1981 and we rapidly became one of the leading operators of birding tours worldwide.

Why do so many birders choose Birdquest? Why have we become one of the largest and most successful bird tour companies in the world? Here is a simple summary of the features that make us stand out from the crowd:

  • Our trips consistently do remarkably well, owing to the excellence of our leaders, our trip logistics and our itineraries. Just take a look at our trip reports for confirmation. We have shown our clients and friends more species of birds than any other operator of birdwatching tours in the world!
  • Expert, helpful and friendly leaders and office staff, with unsurpassed experience, whose aim is to ensure that every participant has a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding birdwatching holiday. We are often praised as having the best leaders and best office staff of any operator of birdwatching holidays.
  • Very low group size limits (typically ranging from 6-12, as appropriate for the birding conditions) and, as a direct result, a superior birding experience. Unlike many bird tour companies, we do not have a ‘couples rule’ that allows the published group size limit to be increased by one. Our published group size limit is the actual limit.
  • The most comprehensive programme of worldwide bird tours available, ranging from easy-going bird and wildlife adventures that can be enjoyed by everyone to pioneering and sometimes demanding journeys to the world’s last wild frontiers.
  • The best and most comprehensive trip materials in the business, whether it is our tour descriptions, our checklists, our pre-tour information documents or our tour reports.
  • Fully inclusive tour prices that offer the highest standard of bird tours yet are good value for such top level trips. Our tour prices generally include all transportation (including all internal or other flights that are part of the tour itinerary), all accommodations, all meals, all field excursions, all entrance fees, all tips for local drivers and guides, boatmen, porters, restaurant staff and others involved in providing local services for our groups, bottled water (where appropriate) and some drinks.
  • Please note, when comparing tour prices, that we normally include all tipping for local drivers and guides. Many bird tour companies exclude tips for these individuals to keep headline tour prices down. In a small group situation, expected tipping can easily amount to up to $250 (roughly £150 or €180) or more per person for a three weeks tour. Local drivers and guides usually work extremely hard to make a bird tour a success, working very long hours, and, as they receive low basic wages, tips for them are not a pleasant bonus but a crucial part of their annual income. We feel it is infinitely preferable that we include this major item of expense so that local drivers and guides are properly rewarded and tour participants are saved both the fiddle of having to pay out substantial extra sums in cash during a tour and, even more importantly, the potential embarrassment that tipping involves.
  • Price reductions for our regulars through our Birdquest Loyalty Bonus Points scheme.
  • Financial security. Birdquest is a United Kingdom government licensed tour operator. The air holidays originating in the United Kingdom that we offer are ATOL Protected by the Civil Aviation Authority. (Most bird tour companies based outside the European Union provide no financial protection for their clients.)
