KONSERVASI ALAM MALUKU UTARA adalah lembaga independen non profit yang bergerak dibidang pelestarian satwa liar dan habitatnya. Kegiatan KAMU bersifat non politis dan non kekerasan. KAMU adalah organisasi yang aktif dan dinamis yang bekerja di Maluk Utara untuk melestarikan satwa liar dan habitatnya melalui pendidikan, kampanye, investigasi, penyelamatan dan rehabilitasi satwa liar.
Sejarah Ringkas Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara
Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara yang disingkat KAMU didirikan pada tanggal 2 November 2000 di Kota Ternate, Maluku Utara dihadapan Pejabat Notaris FARUK ALWI, S.H., dengan nomor Akta Notaris Nomor 93 Tanggal 29 Januari 2001. Ide pendirian KONSERVASI ALAM MALUKU UTARA muncul berawal dari rasa keprihatinan yang tinggi atas tingkat penangkapan dan penyelundupan burung nuri dan kakatua endemik yang di bawa keluar Propinsi Maluku Utara. Hal ini mendorong kami mendirikan Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara yang bekerja untuk membantu satwa liar endemik Maluku Utara agar bebas dari perlakuan kejam dan perdagangan. Sejak itulah KAMU aktif melakukan kampanye dan edukasi tentang pentingnya perlindungan satwa liar Indonesia.
Visi dan Misi:
Visi KAMU adalah Melestarikan dan Melindungi Keanekaragaman Hayati khususnya satwa liar dan habitatnya di Propinsi Maluku Utara dari tindakan eksploitasi yang tidak berkelanjutan sedangkan Misinya adalah menyelamatkan satwa liar dan habitatnya dari kepunahan.
Tujuan KAMU:
* Menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya pelestarian satwa liar
* Melindungi satwa liar dari kegiatan exploitasi dan perlakuan yang tidak layak
Jaringan Konservasi Maluku Utara:
* Tahun 2001 bekerjasama dengan ProFauna Indonesia
* Tahun 2004 bekerjasama dengan Burung Indonesia
* Tahun 2005 bekerjasama dengan Pusat Infornasi Lingkungan Indonesia
* Tahun 2001 tergabung dalam jaringan kerja antar lembaga konservasi seperti Raptor Indonesia (RAIN).
Beberapa Program Penting Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara
Kampanye dan Penyadaran Masyarakat – Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara banyak melakukan penyuluhan di desa-desa yang menjadi habitat satwa liar. Selain itu Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara juga telah mendorong Pemerintah daerah untuk mengeluarkan surat intruksi gubernur yang melarang penangkapan dan membawa keluar dari wilayah Maluku Utara burung-burung endemik tanpa izin yang syah pada tahun 2003, Pada tahun 2005 Konservasi Alam Maluku Utara dan ProFauna juga berhasil mendorong Gubernur Provinsi Maluku Utara untuk mengeluarkan surat rekomendasi peningkatan status kakatua putih sebagai satwa dilindungi.
